State Supreme Court Justice Lori Sattler lost over $1Million in the email scam
A New York Supreme Court judge was fooled out of more than $1million in an email scam.
Justice Lori Sattler, 51, was duped by an email she believed had come from her real estate lawyer, but in actuality it came from a scammer.
Sattler, a judge in the First District of the State Supreme Court in Manhattan, went to police Friday saying she received the email June 7 from someone that she thought was her lawyer. The imposter told her to send the money to an account in Arizona.
She followed the instructions and wired $1,057,500 to the account, the money was then transferred to a Commerce Bank of China in Hong Kong, sources told The New York Daily News.
Lucian Chalfen, a spokesman for the Office of Court Administration, declined comment based on the pending investigation.

In 2013, Sattler presided over the custody battle between Lisa Mehos and her ex-husband Manuel Mehos.
During the trial, she allowed evidence that Lisa Mehos had had an abortion — over the strenuous objections of Mehos' lawyer, who called it a setback for women's rights.
At the time, Sattler also expressed her displeasure that the case had become, in her words, 'newspaper fodder.'
